Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands' Child Care and Development Fund Quality Infant/Toddler Earmark:
FY 2006: The Federal CCDF Quality Infant and Toddler Earmark is $80, 973.
The funds are used in the following ways to enhance the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands' infant and toddler child care system (additional funds may be used to support these activities):
- To emphasize activities that build skills in pre-reading, language, vocabulary and knowledge of numbers.
The Child Care Program, in collaboration with the Office of Curriculum and Instrction, has identified training in best early childhood education practices that support the cognitive development of children in the early years.Providers and the Public School System programs will continue to utilize various resources such as the National Research Council on promoting children's success in reading and literacy, the Project Step which is a nationally recognized and research-based teacher training model focused on early literacy.
